My first Month as an Aim High apprentice

So I have been here at Aim High for around a month now, and I am really starting to enjoy it. My apprenticeship programme is helping me to choose a direction in life. Having done a variety of college courses but not really knowing what I want to do, or what path I wanted to take I am pleased to say that I feel like I have found my way now.

I am 18 years old and left school without much inspiration for what I wanted to do. I live in an old pit mining village where direction and inspiration can be a little sparse. I decided on an apprenticeship because I can still be learning important skills, but more importantly earn at the same time. I have never been able to do that before and it allows me a little more freedom and I already feel more independent for it.

The fact that I am working for a company that provide other young people with opportunities  like this that I have taken advantage of is great. I like the idea that what I am being paid to do is helping other people my age, as I know how important something like this is to me.

I feel like my future is a lot brighter now and open to more opportunity than it was before. I have only been on programme for a month but it has changed things so much already for me, I can’t imagine the changes I will see in myself in a year near to the end of the programme.

If anyone my age was to ask me if they should consider an apprenticeship I would say yes. Doors have opened up for me already and I see a future and a career carving out in front of me. I should have done this a long time ago, go for it Aim High, I did!
